The eye of Photography

The Follow 13 Gallery presents an exhibition of around fifteen works by photographer Thomas Balaÿ dedicated to succulent plants, taken from his book “Succulentes – Le Design Végétal,” published by Ulmer Editions. These plants come from the most beautiful botanical collections in France, from the Botanical Garden of the city of Nancy to the Kuentz nurseries, passing through the sumptuous Cactuserais of Creisméas.

The thirty photographs of Thomas Balaÿ, a former agronomist, plunge the gaze into the very heart of delicate orchids as well as into the centre of succulents, these fatty and fleshy plants. He brings out the sensuality and the strangeness, the fragile elegance of some as the sculptural aspect of others. A work has put the path between documentary testimony and an artistic eye to the Karl Blossfeldt. EV
